How To Setup VR For Assetto Corsa

You cannot overstate Sim Racing’s capacity to immerse you into the world of cars.

But we need audio, touch, or visual stimuli to get that adrenaline rushing through the twist and turns of the race. Together, these factors significantly influence whether or not you will emerge as a winner in Sim Racing.

Now, a virtual reality headset is perhaps the best device that can help you feel the real immersive car racing experience in Assetto Corsa. But it may not be easy to set up.

That’s why we’ve curated this guide to walk you through setting up your VR for Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Why Should I Use A VR?

A virtual reality headgear is a possible substitute for triple monitors. In fact, many sim racers employ a VR headset as a substitute for a more expensive multi-display setup. VR is a potential choice for people looking for a deeper degree of engagement without the increased cost or loss of their home.

If you’ve never tried virtual reality, you’re in for a treat. When you connect Assetto Corsa to a VR headset, you will experience being in the automobile. Those used to 2-D television and video games won’t be able to possibly fathom playing a game in VR mode unless they actually try it.

VR racing in ACC opens up a previously unimaginable world. It enables you to inspect your mirrors like you do in your car as well as glance into the apex of a bend before entering it. These features enable you to adjust your vehicle before approaching or exiting a turn. The same holds for track braking points.

Just like the natural environment, objects travel rapidly on the track, so you must think ahead because it sometimes takes time to change course when you’re halfway through a scenario. That said, VR has flaws as well – some gamers might develop motion sickness while driving the car in the game, making it critical to fine-tune your system.

Is It Possible To Use VR In Assetto Corsa Competizione?

As long as your video card is VR-Ready, you may connect VR with a PC using a separate VR headset such as the Oculus Rift, Meta Quest 2, HTC Vive, and others. Nvidia RTX series graphics cards, for example, offer a dedicated connector for VR headsets.

If you own a console, your VR dreams may be shattered, depending on the system. The Microsoft Xbox One X and Series X do not support VR yet; however, the Sony Playstation 5 does. Despite this, Assetto Corsa Competizione for the Playstation platforms does not enable VR.

Requirements For The ACC VR System

The disadvantage of adopting triple screen monitors over VR is, as one might anticipate, their expense. While it is feasible to save money by using screens with lower frame rate and tinier sizes, the immersive experience, visual quality, and performance of ACC will decrease. However, if you choose VR in Assetto Corsa, your PC must be capable of handling the workload.

Assetto Corsa Competizione is a challenging simulation that will test your hardware even on a single monitor arrangement. If you intend to use VR in the future, be sure your equipment is capable of handling the task. The following is the minimum required VR hardware:

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 7770.
  • Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5
  • 16GB of RAM

Please keep in mind these are the standard minimum requirements for VR to work in ACC. This might not provide the VR experience you need for Sim Racing, but it should get you started. Even if you are only operating a single monitor, we would highly recommend a more durable computer.

Considerations For ACC VR Resolution And FPS

It is critical to realize that the screen resolution of virtual reality headsets are quite different from that of normal monitors. The resolution and frame rate of VR headset screens are often lower than those of regular monitors.

VR headsets with 90 FPS are not rare, and generally some tweaking is necessary to get VR to operate well. Expecting the virtual reality handset to function ideally as soon as it’s out of the box is unrealistic. And if the settings in the VR menu in ACC are not adjusted, you may be left with a sub-optimal configuration.

How To Setup VR For Assetto Corsa

To get started, head over to Steam and click on Assetto Corsa. Select the menu option and you’ll get to scroll down through the list of properties to make the game VR-ready. When you launch the game you should see the option of VR – all you have to do is select it and put on your VR headset.

When setting up VR, we discovered Content Manager to be the ideal launcher for Assetto Corsa. You can also change the screen to Oculus in the settings, and it will be a lot less cumbersome than adjusting each setting individually.

Launch Oculus first, then Content Manager (assuming you’ve already set the display to Oculus). Content Manager is ideal for a wide range of tasks, and we’ve always preferred it over the usual launcher. It also serves as a repository for all of your modifications.

Final Words

There’s no denying how much we’ve loved to play Assetto Corsa over the decades. From single-screen to multiple-screen setups, and now all the way to VR compatibility, the game kept us fascinated at every turn.
